A Ground Breaking ceremony was held today at Hurley Chrysler Jeep Dodge to celebrate the beginning of the dealership's ambitious construction project. Hurley Chrysler Jeep Dodge has been a DeLand business institution since 1992 and this multi-million dollar project will be one of Chrysler's first new Project Genesis facilities in the United States.

Project Genesis was implemented in early 2008 by Chrysler and the intent of the program is to provide branded World Class facilities with World Class employees selling and servicing all of Chrysler's brands under one roof.

The new facility will more than triple the size of the customer lounge,  include a customer media center with work space for lap tops along with printing facilities, a refreshment center, a dedicated children's play area, and many more customer convenience features. The service drive is being enlarged to accommodate 12 vehicles under cover and will include an "express" lane for speedy oil changes. The new showroom will accommodate 14 vehicles comfortably instead of the 4 in the current showroom.

Extensive site work is also included in the ambitious plans. "We have over 2 acres of unimproved property to pave and all of the existing pavement and lot lighting will be replaced," said Brendan Hurley, the dealership's president. "Our new facility will be very green and energy efficient" added Hurley. Extensive underground drainage will satisfy all of the local and State authorities as it exceeds all of the standards and requirements.

Deland Mayor, Robert F. Apgar, City Manager, Michael Pleus, and City Commissioner, Leigh Matusick, attended the morning event at the dealership. "This state of the art facility will be great for DeLand" said Mayor Apgar while admiring the rendering of the new facility. The property is classified as a part of the "Gateway" to DeLand.

The event was attended by Robert Weaver and Jay Godwin, both district managers with Chrysler Corporation. "Our customers are the big winners here" said Weaver. "This will be one of the nicest facilities in the South East, customers will love it especially when you include Hurley's proven track record for delighting customers," remarked Godwin.

Extensive information was provided to the attendees by the Architect, Duane Anderson, the General Contractor, Jeff Malmborg, and the Site Contractor, Brian Hardy. The Beacon and The News Journal covered the event with a photographer and a reporter. Also in attendance to celebrate the beginning of the project was Tristan Davison, Vice President from Pinnacle Bank  in Orange City. "We are proud to provide financing for this exciting project and of our association with Hurley Chrysler Jeep Dodge" said Davison.

After a review of the plans on the back of a big Dodge truck on the showroom floor, everyone moved outside for photographs in front of one of the bulldozers. Mr. Hurley concluded the event by starting it up and scooping up the first load of dirt.
